The French Secretary of State for Trade, Small and Medium Enterprises, Tourism, Services, Liberal professions and Consumption, Frédéric Lefebvre,
announced on Tuesday that measures in the Decree of 24 July 2006 (which called for an upgrade and overhaul of security norms in French hotels) shall be relaxed for small establishments who viewed the Decree as a veritable condemnation.As the most visited country in the world, France could not allow 17,000 of its 35,000 hotels in its supply to shut down.The Ministry stated that the original Decree did not take into consideration the wide range of lodging available in France on a historical and financial perspective. In fact, some hotels boast a historical heritage that won’t allow for 21st century modification, while other establishments (notably those with less than 20 rooms) could simply not survive the financial burden vis à vis their revenue.
