
Jean-Virgile Crance, President of the CAT, and Marie Audren, Managing Director of the Hotrec, discuss the constraints imposed by rules and regulations, while exploring strategies for making the most of them.
Romain Gowhari was quite spontaneous in pointing out that there are regulatory issues that hotel operators and developers have to deal with. You both have a role to play in defending the hospitality sector.
Jean-Virgile Crance : I chair the Confédération des Acteurs du Tourisme (CAT). Our aim is to form a single organisation that can represent our economic sector to the public authorities. CAT currently has around twenty members, the 20ᵉ member being the CNAM, which has joined us, i.e. the airline sector. This confederation systematically brings together professional federations, i.e. federations recognised by the sector, which each time represents a certain number of companies and employees. Our aim is to bring together the entire tourism ecosystem and to ensure that each federation brings its own issues to the table.
There are many cross-cutting issues, so we coordinate our efforts to reach agreement on a common position that we can take to the public authorities, which has a much greater impact than going it alone.
Marie Audren : Hotrec is the voice of the sector at European level. Our association is based in Brussels, and our main mission is to represent the voice of the hotel and catering sector to the European public authorities, in all its diversity. Today, Hotrec is made up of 47 national associations from 36 countries. So it's not just the European Union, it's continental Europe. We have a wealth of regulatory expertise on all the proposals that come out of Brussels and which are going to have an impact. The job of our team in Brussels and the network of experts we have through our national actions is to define a common position.
