The US based company has announced the construction of an apartment block being built in partnership with a property developer in Kissimmee, Florida. By embarking on such a development, is the giant starting what could be a strategic turning point?
This is news that will not fail to interest observers of the sector. Airbnb has decided to opt for a strategy of developing a new rental property, announcing the construction of a building dedicated to the rental of accommodation. It is being built in partnership with the developer Newgard Development Group.
The project "Niido Powered by Airbnb" is expected to include 324 apartments in the city of Kissimmee, not far from Orlando, Florida. The building will have services facilitating its rental to tourists, such as communal areas, entry codes and an onsite cleaning company. However, owners could only rent their apartment for up to 180 days a year.
This signifies an important change of course for Airbnb. By developing its own offering, through the creation of new real estate, the brand is exploring new sources of growth while preparing its defense against those who blame it for the cannibalization of the long-term rental market and the contributing rise in rents and real estate prices. Like any entrepreneurial giant, Airbnb defends its core business while initiating a diversification of its business activity.
