Les Roches & ULPGC

The two institutions will work together to promote joint studies through the signing of an agreement that highlights the importance of specialised tourism education as an effective tool for training future professionals.

The rector of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), Lluís Serra Majem, and the CEO of Les Roches, Carlos Díez de la Lastra, signed a framework agreement on 5 October 2022 to establish new collaborative links between the two institutions, to disseminate education and culture, and to contribute to the development of higher education and scientific and technological research.

The agreement, which extends to the ULPGC's tourism and business administration and management programmes, as well as to Les Roches' master's and postgraduate programmes in Switzerland (Crans Montana) and Spain (Marbella), will last four years.

During these four years, the two schools are committed to developing action plans for joint studies and research, exchanges of students, teachers and researchers, as well as the training and further training of teachers and researchers.

This agreement is aimed at strengthening the synergies and deepening the characteristics that unite Les Roches and the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), but above all it represents a boost to the growing interest and need for specialised training in tourism. A need for training that is all the more important at a time when the sector is finding it increasingly difficult to recruit qualified people.

Education is not only proving to be an effective and necessary tool for creating a solid foundation for the tourism industry, but it is already a global priority set by relevant organisations such as the UNWTO. We are proud to be able to continue contributing to this mission, and to do so hand in hand with such an important university as ULPGC, also a reference in the field of tourism.

Carlos Díez de la Lastra, CEO of Les Roches

For the ULPGC, this is a unique opportunity to establish this agreement that reinforces the excellence between the two institutions and brings the vast experience of the University of Les Roches to our students and to the tourism sector of the Canary Islands, the engine of our economy and the ULPGC betting on a high quality training for the future professionals who join the sector. Always looking for synergies to improve and progress in favour of the Canary Islands community.
