Due to the important role played by Tourism and Travel in the Peruvian trade -9% of GDP according to WTTC research- the World Travel and Tourism Council has announced that the city of Lima will host the 2014 WTTC Americas Summit in September 2014. The announcement comes after the UNWTO and WTTC awarded Peruvian President Ollanta Humala with the Open Letter as part of the Global Leaders for Tourism Campaign in 2012.Thus Peru's Ministry of Tourism will work in partnership with the WTTC to welcome leading public and private sector organisations from North, Central, and South America and the Caribbean to debate on a range of issues in the industry."The Peruvian Government has for many years adopted policies which encourage sustainable tourism and manage sensitively its tourism heritage. This strategy has led to continued growth in the size of the Travel & Tourism economy and job creation. The country promises to be a fitting host for our Americas Summit", says WTTC President & CEO David Scowsill, noting the Americas as one of the world's most important Travel & Tourism regions.
