The Paris Ritz damaged by fire

A fire broke out at the Hôtel Ritz this morning, just two months away from the date it was scheduled to reopen. There were no victims, but damage is significant.

The fire that broke out this morning is finally under control at around 10:30 am. The fire began on the last floor under the rooftop, which is particularly difficult to access. It is here that the hotel's most luxurious suites are located, and these had just been renovated. The fire and the intervention of the fire brigade have most certainly caused significant damage, the extent of which remains unknown.

The emblematic institution at Place Vendôme in Paris's 1st arrondissement had been closed for renovations since March 2012. The property was expected to open its doors again in March, but the fire could postpone that date once more. The 142-room and suite property has been owned by the Egyptian businessman Mohamed Al-Fayed since 1979.
