Wyndham Hotel & Resorts has announced the arrival of two of its brands in Mexico City, in the heart of La Condesa neighborhood: Wyndham Grand Mexico City and Esplendor by Wyndham La Condesa.
The Aristos Complex, built by Spanish architect Jose Luis Benlliure in the 1960s and listed by the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA) for its artistic merit, which became a meeting place for art and entertainment during the second half of the 20th century, is being renovated with an investment of over $100 million.
The two Wyndham Hotels & Resorts: Wyndham Grand Mexico City and Esplendor by Wyndham La Condesa will open in early 2022. Together they will feature 408 rooms spread over 7,500 square meters with two rooftops offering panoramic views of the city, a variety of culinary offerings, event space for up to 1,000 people, and a range of services such as club lounge, coworking space, concierge, 24-hour in-room dining and a pet program.
The renovation was entrusted to the architectural firm AomA, headed by architect Jihei Aoki, who wanted mainly to respect the original project of Benlliure, maintaining the curved Art Deco style that characterized the space. But the attributes and differentiating elements of the building were respected, such as the mosaic of geometric lines representing the procession of the Panathenaeums (religious, cultural and sports festivities that took place every year in Athens in honor of their goddess), a real work of art at ground level.
