Hotel Indigo opens in a former university building in Durham

The brand plans to open 20 hotels over the next 3 to 5 years.

Set in former university offices at Old Shire Hall, office to the university’s Vice-Chancellor until 2012, Hotel Indigo Durham has 83 boutique bedrooms with ornate details to reflect the rich ties to the city’s famous trinity of cathedral, castle and university.

The hotel is managed by Interstate Europe, a third-party hotel management company, which has 72 properties in its portfolio across the UK.

The Hotel Indigo brand is set to increase its footprint in 2018 with upcoming openings also including two Hotel Indigo London, Hotel Indigo Milan and Hotel Indigo Stratford-upon-Avon.

The brand claims 24 Hotel Indigo properties across Europe and plans to open 20 over the next three to five years, a significant proportion of these are in the UK.
