The Student Hotel Madrid, currently under construction, is expected to open in early 2022. It corresponds to the conversion and renovation of an existing building, located in Plaza de España.
The former printing house will be rehabilitated to accommodate 300 rooms. In addition, the hotel will also be equipped with a restaurant and sky bar with views of the palace, a gym, a coworking center, a communal kitchen, meeting spaces and a game room. The location, ten minutes away from Gran Vía and Madrid's Palacio Real, will allow the facility to operate in the heart of the Spanish capital.
In October 2019, the financing agreement signed by Santander, Sabadell and HSBC had released 90 million euros to the hotel group with the aim of developing two new hotels in Madrid and Barcelona, and refinancing its existing Spanish assets. This transaction was part of a €2 billion accelerated investment program to strengthen The Student Hotel's position in Europe over five years.
The company, owned by Charlie McGregor and the funds Aermont Capital and ABP, has announced the development of three projects in Spain - in Barcelona, San Sebastián and Madrid. Nowadays, TSH gathers 16 properties with a total of 11,000 rooms in 12 cities across eight countries in Europe. A further 11 student hotels are under development.
