Whether through its Radisson RED, Radisson Collection or Radisson Blu brands, the group is continuing to develop its European hotel operator network with the opening of hotels in several major tourist destinations on the old continent.
The Radisson Gran Vía Bilbao has just opened its doors in the heart of the Spanish city, not far from the Guggenheim Museum and the main attractions of the destination. The building, built in 1950 by architect Manuel Ignacio Galíndez Zabal, is now a luxury hotel operating under the Radisson Collection brand.
Millenium Hospitality Real Estate is in charge of the new property after undertaking the conversion process of the original building. The hotel is also the first in the world to achieve the LEED Platinum environmental rating. A significant distinction at a time when sustainability is one of the criteria scrutinised by travellers.
The Radisson Gran Vía Bilbao has 137 rooms, a bar, a signature rooftop restaurant and a gym and spa. Millenium emphasises that this new hotel demonstrates its ability to reposition and enhance iconic hotel operators in major Spanish tourist cities, as it recently did with the Plaza Magdalena Hotel in Seville.
The opening of the Radisson Gran Vía Hotel in Bilbao is another example of our interest in Spain. A privileged location and a high level of design based on sustainable solutions are two of the characteristics of the Radisson Collection brand, as are the personalisation of the hotels and the commitment to gastronomy, and this hotel undoubtedly meets all these requirements.
Federico J. González Tejera, CEO of Radisson Hotel Group
Radisson is also moving into Austria with the opening of the Radisson RED Vienna, the brand's first hotel in Vienna. The property is located on the edge of Vienna's Leopoldstadt district, directly on the Danube Canal. The Radisson Red Vienna is distinguished by its white metal facade, which contrasts with the golden windows and the glass construction on the roof.
The hotel has 179 rooms and suites with an "unusual design". The F&B offer consists of the rooftop bar Istros, which offers a panoramic view of the Austrian capital, and the restaurant Sarai, which offers cuisine inspired by the Silk Road. There is also a coworking space and a lounge.
Vienna, with its history, music and art, is the perfect city for the debut of our Radisson Red brand in the German speaking market. This hotel, with its unique architecture and interior design, sensational rooftop bar with roof terrace and a team that offers great hospitality 'with a twist', as we say, is a prelude to further brand openings throughout the region. The Radisson RED Vienna will establish itself as an established value in the Viennese hotel operator market.
Yilmaz Yildirimlar, Area Senior Vice President of Radisson Hotel Group
The Radisson RED Vienna is the group's fourth hotel in Vienna, alongside the Radisson Blu Style Hotel Vienna in the first district, the Radisson Blu Park Royal Palace Hotel Vienna near Schönbrunn Palace and the Radisson Individuals Hotel Rathauspark near Vienna City Hall.
The group intends to continue its expansion, particularly through the Radisson RED brand, which is appearing in various European destinations. Last year saw the opening of the Radisson RED London Greenwich in the UK and the Radisson RED Cape Town in South Africa. In 2023, the Radisson RED London Gatwick Airport and the Radisson RED Mitropoleos Square Athens are expected to open.
