The Son Bunyola Hotel, which will become part of entrepreneur Richard Branson's Virgin Limited Edition brand portfolio, will officially open on 1 August 2023.
The Son Bunyola Hotel is situated on an 810 acre estate in the Tramuntana Mountains. It will comprise the main estate, which dates back to the 1500s, and the original towers of the house, one of which was originally a defence tower built in the 13th century.
As this is a 16th century estate, a restoration project began in June last year. Gras Architects was responsible for the preservation of the heritage and its integration into the environment, and the Majorcan company Rialto Living was responsible for the interior design.
The property will have 26 luxury rooms, the Tafona, a former oil mill, will become one of two restaurants, lounges and outdoor terraces, and the old terrace will house the swimming pool overlooking Mallorca's famous Foradada. The two original towers of the house will be transformed into two Tower Suites with views of the surrounding vineyards and mountains.
Sustainability is at the heart of the conservation project with a hot water system from the air conditioning and cooling systems, a biomass boiler, improved thermal insulation, a water collection system and a building management system to monitor and control lighting, air conditioning and energy consumption.
The hotel is located on the Son Bunyola estate, which is part of the Virgin Limited Edition portfolio and is already home to three standalone luxury villas, namely Sa Punta S'Aguila, Sa Terra Rotja and Son Balagueret.
