The property in the heart of Porto’s shopping district is set to open in April.
The 49-room Fontinha Hotel Porto is located just off the city’s famous Rua de Santa Catarina, a shopping destination for locals and tourists alike.
The first of the Wyndham Hotels and Resorts group’s Trademark Collection by Wyndham’ softbrand to open in Portugal, the four star Fontinha hopes to make its mark through its young, contemporary vibe as well as its on-target location.
Taking its hipsterish decor inspiration from industrial chic, the hotel boasts cosy common spaces dotted with quirky messages on its walls and floors, original designs and artfully arranged shelves of plants and books.
Guests can choose between its standard rooms measuring around 21sqm, a deluxe option at around 28sqm or a suite at around 34sqm. Rooms are decorated in calm neutrals and continue the industrial-style design.
On the doorstep of the shops and restaurants of Rua de Santa Catarina, the Fontinha is the ideal starting point for travellers to discover Portugal’s second city.
Porto, a UNESCO Heritage Site on the Douro estuary, attracts millions of visitors every year with its near-year-round sunny weather, excellent food, famous port wine, and beautiful architecture.
Nestling the Old Town, the hotel is a short distance from several museums and a taxi ride of less than 10 minutes from Porto Cathedral and the Douro.
From the Fontinha, local attractions such as the historic Café Majestic, a cultural heritage site, Art Nouveau storefronts and the Capela das Almas church with its distinctive tiled façade are a stone’s throw.
And for shopping it is in an unrivalled position, right next to the part-pedestrianised high street’s wealth of international brands with traditional handicraft stalls running parallel. The bustling atmosphere is accompanied by regular street entertainment.
The hotel will create its own evening buzz with its brand new restaurant and lounge bar with outside space.
Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, a worldwide hospitality company with over 55 brands to its name, launched its Trademark Collection in 2017.The collection is made up of diverse independent hotels in fashionable locations, providing a tailor-made experience for guests inspired by local culture.
Latest additions to the brand include destinations in Belgium (Brussels), Hungary (Budapest), Romania (Bucharest), Greece (Thessaloniki) and the UK (Manchester and Sheffield).
Announcing the opening, Christian Michel, Vice President for Development Europe, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts said: “Porto has become a popular city thanks to its rich culture scene and picturesque locales, which made it the perfect fit to launch the brand in this exciting market. We are thrilled to add Portugal to the exciting destinations where Trademark Collection by Wyndham can be found, which is testament to Wyndham’s recognition amongst owners and travellers.”
