The hotel group announces the signature of a hotel project in Basra for 2018.
To respond to upmarket hotel demand in the economic capital city of the country, the group expects to open the Mövenpick Hotel Basra in the first quarter of 2018.
Basra is a major actor in the oil and gas industries in Iraq. The group decided to establish itself in the city by opening a 5-star hotel offering 152 rooms and suites.
It will primarily respond to business segment demand that “represents around 90% of Basra’s hotel demand,” specifies Olivier Chavy, President & CEO Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts.
The hotel will include two restaurants, a private lounge and lobby, a meeting and events space (including a ballroom), an indoor swimming pool, a fitness center, a beauty salon and a boutique.
It will be located in the commercial district of Al Baradi’yah and 25 km (15 miles) west of the international airport.
As of January 1, 2017, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts ranked 52nd hotel group worldwide with 84 properties for a total of more than 21,000 rooms, according to data published by Hospitality ON.
