Motel One continues to expand in the European market with the opening of two new properties, one in Ulm, Germany and the second in Madrid, Spain.
The new Motel One Ulm opened its doors in October in the centre of Münsterplatz. Opposite the cathedral from which it takes its name, Motel One is housed in the former Abbey building, which has been completely renovated into a modern three-winged building.
The five-storey hotel has 159 rooms, starting with a lobby inspired by the life and work of Albert Einstein. A large portrait of the genius, together with his theory of relativity, hangs on the wall. Ulm is Albert Einstein's birthplace, which gives him a special significance as a "city hero".
Not far from the reception, at the back of the ground floor, are two meeting rooms that can be rented for business meetings and collaborations. There is also a bistro kitchen where guests can be served while they work. On the top floor of the hotel, under the sloping glass ceilings, there is a lounge and wellness area with a view of the surrounding cathedral.
Motel One is opening its second property in Spain by signing a lease agreement with Proyectos Inmobiliarios Rusell in Madrid. The hotel operator is taking over an existing hotel in the Plaza de Espana in the city centre. The new property will reopen to the public on 1 November 2022 after a rebranding. The Munich-based group is thus expanding its portfolio in Spain and continuing its international expansion.
The property was renovated in 2017 and has 97 rooms with an average size of 25 m², some of which are business or family rooms with a terrace. The hotel also has a meeting room, co-working spaces in the lounge and underground parking.
Madrid is the political and cultural centre of Spain. With our new property, located directly on the Plaza de Espana, we have once again secured a prime location in the best city centre. Guests can walk to the Gran Via, the Royal Palace or the Teatro Real. Being present in Madrid is a big step for Motel One and a great engine for our international expansion. We would like to thank our partner, for the trust they have placed in us and we look forward to working with them in the years to come.
