The Meliá Collection Ngorongoro, which will open in 2023, will be the group's fourth property in Tanzania.

Meliá Hotels International has signed a new hotel in Tanzania, located in the Ngorongoro Crater, which will open next year after a complete refurbishment that will maintain the authenticity of the property and allow it to integrate with the environment.

The renovation project has been carried out with particular attention to the protection of the natural environment, including indigenous flora and fauna, waste management and treatment and energy efficiency.

Once the renovation is complete, the Meliá Collection Ngorongoro will have 52 crater-view rooms, including 24 suites, two restaurants, a small grill restaurant, a swimming pool and a spa. The hotel is part of a select collection of lodges located in the Arusha region of northern Tanzania in the so-called crater highlands.

In terms of sustainability, the hotel will generate much of its energy from solar panels and minimise its electricity consumption by using fans. It will produce its own water for human consumption through its own bottling plant that processes local water and avoids unnecessary consumption and transportation of plastic.

From a social perspective, the hotel will seek to integrate and promote Maasai heritage and culture within the lodge, providing employment for local Maasai tribes and using indigenous decoration in the property, made by local tribes and businesses, with products that can also be sold to guests to generate additional profit for the community.

The Meliá Collection Ngorongoro will be the chain's fourth hotel in Tanzania, where it already has the Grand Meliá Arusha, the Meliá Zanzibar and the Meliá Collection Serengeti.
