Valencia will be home to a new Marriott hotel in the former Telefónica building on the Plaza de la Ciudad. This ambitious project, part of The Luxury Collection brand, has been given the go-ahead for construction by Valencia City Council.
The future Marriott hotel in Valencia will have 52 rooms spread over six floors, with a total surface area of 4,082 square metres. There will also be a 190 square metre terrace on the top floor, overlooking the city. The transformation of the former Telefónica building is part of an initiative to modernise and enhance the architectural heritage of the city.
Valencia City Council highlighted the considerable efforts made to reduce the backlog of building permits. "We have worked intensively to unblock the licence for the hotel in the former Telefónica building in less than eight months," said a municipal representative. The licence application, submitted on November 17, was officially signed on July 5.
The hotel in Plaça de l'Hôtel de Ville will join Marriott's The Luxury Collection, which has just five properties in Spain. These include the Alfonso XIII in Seville, the Marqués de Riscal in La Rioja, the María Cristina in San Sebastián, the Santo Mauro in Madrid, and the Castillo Hotel Son Vida in Palma de Mallorca.
The opening of this new luxury hotel is excellent news for Valencia. As well as improving the city's tourism infrastructure, the hotel is expected to attract a clientele with high purchasing power, thereby boosting the local economy. The renovation and adaptation of the former Telefónica building will also help to preserve Valencia's historic heritage.
"This is an interesting hotel offer that will be located in an enclave such as the Town Hall Square, where we are going to commit ourselves to making it dignified and recovering its quality." - María José Catalá, Mayor of Valencia
