Hotel group Mandarin Oriental has announced plans to develop a luxury property in the centre of Rome, due to open in 2026. This addition will take the group's Italian portfolio to five properties, alongside its Milan, Lake Como and forthcoming projects in Cortina and Porto Cervo.
The development will be carried out in collaboration with Merope Asset Management, a leading Italian real estate investment and development company.
Mandarin Oriental, Rome will be housed in ten nineteenth-century villas, originally built as residences for wealthy Romans and surrounded by lush landscaped gardens, within walking distance of Rome's main attractions and archaeological sites such as Via Veneto, the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain, the Roman Forum and Piazza Navona.
The villas will house 108 rooms and suites, many with private gardens and terraces. Interior design will be overseen by Gilles & Boissier, known for their work on Mandarin Oriental properties in Marrakech and Madrid. Dining options will be designed by DimoreStudio and landscaping by Parc Nouveau.
Guests will have access to six different dining venues, including an open-air setting and a stand-alone dining concept in one of the villas. The Mandarin Bar, located on a rooftop terrace, will offer panoramic views of the city.
The hotel will also feature a full-service spa with a variety of wellness services, indoor and outdoor pools, fitness facilities and thermal rooms.
