IHG Hotels & Resorts announces a dynamic expansion of its Garner brand in Europe, particularly in Germany, the United Kingdom, and Turkey, as well as the Six Senses brand in Italy.
Accelerated Growth of Garner in Europe
Since its launch in August 2023, Garner has quickly established itself in the mid-scale hotel conversion segment. In just six months, 76 hotels have been signed globally, including 58 in Europe, illustrating the growing appeal of this brand in the market.
“We are delighted by the rapid expansion of Garner and the interest shown by our partners in this exciting new brand. We know our owners seek stronger returns on investments with an ability to reduce pre-opening costs by quickly moving to operational and now-open status, which is exactly what our newest brand, Garner, delivers.” - Ms. Willemijn Geels, Vice President of Development for Europe at IHG Hotels & Resorts
Northern Europe
One of the most notable developments is in Germany, where IHG established a long-term partnership with NOVUM Hospitality in April 2024. This agreement involves the conversion of over 50 hotels under the Garner brand, with openings planned in cities such as Hamburg, Mannheim, and Berlin. Germany represents a strategic market for IHG, further strengthening Garner's presence in one of Europe’s most competitive segments, where demand for mid-scale hotels remains high. Additionally, another hotel project is underway in Hamburg, with a 245-room establishment planned in the Usedomstrasse area.
Furthermore, Garner will make its debut in Vienna, Austria, with a 106-room hotel, and in Maastricht, Netherlands, with a 165-room property.
United Kingdom and Ireland
The United Kingdom also stands out as a strategic market for Garner. The opening of the Garner Hotel Reading Centre is scheduled for late 2024, following a complete renovation in partnership with Nilvip Hotels. Located in the heart of Reading, this 53-room hotel will offer easy access to the city's main business and transportation attractions. Additionally, the Garner Hotel Preston Samlesbury, with 80 rooms, will open in northwest England in collaboration with KRO Hospitality.
Turkey
Finally, Turkey represents a significant growth opportunity for Garner, with the opening of a 126-room hotel in Istanbul, near the city’s international airport, scheduled for 2025. This strategic location, in partnership with FRT Turizm and AB Consulting, aims to meet the growing demand for accessible accommodations for transit travelers.
In total, IHG has signed 79 Garner hotels in strategic regions such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, and Turkey.
Expansion of Six Senses in Italy
While Garner is expanding in the mid-scale segment, IHG’s luxury brand, Six Senses, is strengthening its presence in Italy with two new properties: Six Senses Milan and Six Senses Lake Como. Following the successful opening of Six Senses Rome in 2023, these new signings consolidate the brand's presence in Italy.
IHG Hotels & Resorts’ Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio, which includes Six Senses, now comprises nearly 100 hotels in Europe, with properties in Italy, Switzerland, France, Israel, Portugal, Spain, and Turkey.
Scheduled to open in 2025, Six Senses Milan will be located in the artistic Brera district. The hotel will feature 68 rooms, including 15 suites and two private pools, as well as facilities like an Earth Lab and a restaurant offering seasonal cuisine. According to Neil Jacobs, CEO of Six Senses, the establishment caters to clients seeking attentive hospitality in a major fashion hub.
As for Six Senses Lake Como, its opening is planned for 2028 following the complete restoration of the Grand Hotel Cadenabbia. The hotel will include 102 spacious rooms, a wellness-focused spa, and a floating pool on the lake.
These new properties enhance the collaboration between Six Senses and Gruppo Statuto, a major Italian real estate player that already owns Six Senses London and Six Senses Ibiza.
“ Following its success in Ibiza and Rome and its upcoming opening in London, Gruppo Statuto is delighted to announce two further historical buildings in iconic international addresses. The Gruppo Statuto Luxury Hotels portfolio is now a benchmark within the high-end hospitality segment, where Italy leads interests and investments, due to its history, culture, and lifestyle.” - Giuseppe Statuto, owner of Gruppo Statuto.
