Hotel Hotel Lisbonne

Recently opened in the Portuguese capital, Hotel Hotel celebrates art and design with a bespoke interior and exterior created by local artists and designers, with unique and site-specific artworks.

The new hotel, located in the heart of Lisbon, a stone's throw from the Avenida da Liberdade, is "not about travel", explains Alexandre Martins. Rather, it is about "feeling connected to a culture and to people". The property reflects a new generation of hotels built with the express purpose of fostering interpersonal connectivity.

An artistic journey through the Hotel Hotel begins with the work of Maria Ana Vasco Costa, who was commissioned to create the façade of the building. She produced and placed individually handmade tiles on the exterior in a three-dimensional ladder-like pattern.

Inside, an open and airy lobby leads to a restaurant and an open-air courtyard with a pool and lounge area, each with specific artworks by Clemens Behr, Wasted Rita and Pastel, respectively. The design was created by the Lisbon-based studio Pedrita.

The hall also hosts a whimsical collection of stools made and designed in Portugal by artists such as Gonçalo Prudêncio for Ghome, Tiago Almeida for Fica, Luís Porém for Boa Safra. Other artworks placed in the property were created by Underdogs Gallery, Lisbon's street art specialists.

To access the 36 rooms and four suites, guests are invited to take the stairs, which are covered in a custom snake carpet designed by Pedrita. In addition, the lift doors open to reveal mini galleries on each floor.

In some suites, Valcromat wall installations are complemented by a collaboration with artist Vanessa Barragão, who uses recycled waste to create sculptural tapestries for the floor and walls. In addition to the custom-made pieces by artists, other brands featured in the rooms include Muuto, Inclass Design, Fermob, Petite Friture and Serax.

Back on the ground floor, ANIMAL, the hotel's restaurant, has a sustainable approach. The kitchen operates on a low-waste ethos with local and seasonal ingredients in the spotlight. Seating is available indoors and in the open-air courtyard, which acts as a 110m² green oasis.

In addition, there is a subterranean level that houses a yoga room and a specialised tattoo studio open to customers and locals alike. A unique experience in this new hotel like no other, cultivating its inner and outer beauty.
