IHG has announced the opening of Holiday Inn Express Sofia Airport, the brand's first hotel in the country.
The fourth IHG hotel in Bulgaria, it will join InterContinental Sofia and Crowne Plaza Sofia in the capital, as well as Holiday Inn Plovdiv. Signed in partnership with the Express Sofia Airport OOD hotel, this is the first signing between IHG and the ownership group.
Located in the Bulgarian capital and close to the international airport, the Holiday Inn Express Sofia Airport will feature 152 rooms, a restaurant and bar. The location is strategic for travelers in transit or wishing to visit the capital.
This strategic opening marks the expansion of the IHG network in Europe. The choice of Sofia is no coincidence: the city has become an emerging tourist destination thanks to its culture, architecture, art scene and local cuisine, as well as its ski resorts.
Founded in 1990, Holiday Inn Express is one of 18 brands in the IHG Group's premium collection. It is designed to enable people to travel simply, intelligently and affordably.
"We're delighted to bring one of our most iconic and loved brands to another destination in Europe. Sofia is a fantastic city with a lot to offer the modern traveler, and we're pleased that Holiday Inn Express Sofia Airport will provide the essentials for both short-term and business travelers. Airport locations are a key aspect of our Holiday Inn Express brand growth strategy, and this latest signing further strengthens our presence in tourist and connecting cities across Europe." - Ms. Willemijn Geels, Vice President Development Europe, IHG Hotels & Resorts
