Edmondo

After the debut of its restaurants in Germany, the Giorgia Trattoria in Munich and the Coccodrillo in Berlin, the French group Big Mamma will open the Italian trattoria Edmondo in Hamburg.

Edmondo is moving into the prestigious Die Bank building, a former bank with five-metre-high ceilings that will feature more than 2,400 bottles of spirits hanging on the walls. Once open, the trattoria can accommodate 230 customers, including 50 on the terrace.

Studio Kiki, the in-house design team in charge of the new property, has created an atmosphere inspired by modernism and the theory of forms of the 1930s. The place has been redesigned without losing its original charm.

For example, the vault room has been converted into a large wine cellar and the original terrazzo floor has also been retained. The bar, with its illuminated marble counters and crocodile carpet, is the heart of the restaurant.

Future customers will be able to discover the great classics that have made Big Mamma's reputation over the years, such as truffle pasta, this time reinvented in a 4kg pecorino wheel with fresh black truffles and truffle sauce, as well as pizzas and oysters.

Chef Edoardo Bernini has developed a homemade menu with over 170 Italian producers. It starts with products from Italy such as Onesto Ghirardi's Prosciutto di Parma or Emmanuele Cammarota's burrata from Puglia.

The Italian food group continues to expand its presence across Europe with the opening of Jacuzzi in London earlier this year, followed by the opening of Carlotta next month in the heart of the UK capital. Last year, Big Mamma set up shop in Monaco.
