The 2013 HQ strategy signifies the importance of the Middle East for Starwood's future growth. Starwood is the region's leading hotel operator, with nearly 50 hotels in 11 countries. Another 30 hotels are in the pipeline. Within Dubai, Starwood has 15 hotels, representing its largest concentration outside New York. Dubai is ticketed for another five Starwood hotels by 2017, including the debuts of the W and St. Regis flags."With hotels in 100 countries and 80 percent of our future pipeline outside of North America, Starwood is the world's most global high-end hotel company, perfectly positioned to capitalize on an ever growing global marketplace," said Frits van Paasschen, Starwood president and CEO. "Dubai is emblematic of how globalization is creating new travel patterns and travel hubs and serves as a crossroad between the emerging and developed worlds."A dozen executives from the senior team will handle day-to-day business from Dubai as they did in 2011 when the HQ was temporarily moved to China.
