Croatia's entry into the European Union was expected to have positive effects on tourism, and it has shown optimistic as far as attendance prospects. However, it was also expected that the country quickly adopt the Euro. This is not the case, as officials expect five more years on the kuna, the national currency. This projection is even more positive on attendance, as it suppresses prices to pre-EU levels for the next five years. However, the other side of the argument is that the national economy does not immediately benefit from a stronger currency. In all, this decision should have a balancing effect on Croatian tourism, raising attendance while prices are lower than expected.
