The EDITION Hotels brand is coming to Iceland with the opening of the Reykjavik EDITION Hotel in November.

EDITION Hotels

This collection of boutique hotels was created by Ian Schrager, one of the founders of Studio 54 in New York in the late 1970s. Ian Schrager developed EDITION Hotels in partnership with Marriott International and today the collection boasts 11 hotels open in North America, Europe, Asia Pacific and the Middle East, with a further 15 in the pipeline including The Reykjavik EDITION.

Ian Schrager himself was the lead conceptualiser and programmer, while the design was realized in partnership with Icelandic architectural firm T.ark and New York studio Roman and Williams.

The Reykjavik EDITION

The 253-room hotel will be located on the harbourfront next to the contemporary Harpa concert hall, also Reykjavik's congress centre, and close to the Laugavegur shopping street.

Positioned as an urban hub, the property will include several bars, a signature restaurant, a nightclub and a modern wellness offering in keeping with the country's spa heritage.

In Iceland, you’re getting to see things you won’t see anywhere else. More so than any other place in the world, it’s a real opportunity to get in touch with earth and nature and we’re proud to further expand the EDITION brand in an incredible place with an incredibly exciting hotel that gives you a true sense of place.

The lobby of Reykjavik EDITION will feature architectural and decorative elements made of volcanic rock, in a nod to the island's geological features. In addition, an immersive 3D video of the Northern Lights will be projected in the centre. A bar will also be located in the lobby, offering a variety of international wines and Icelandic-style cocktails.

Tides, the hotel's signature restaurant, will have an outdoor terrace and its own waterfront entrance. Chef Gunnar Karl Gíslason will be in charge, having previously worked at Dill, a Michelin-starred restaurant in Reykjavik. The restaurant offer will explore Icelandic cuisine in a modern way with traditional recipes and local products. In addition, Tölt, the hotel's intimate bar, will offer a range of cocktails made from Icelandic spirits.

On the 7th floor, the hotel will have a versatile space, The Roof, with panoramic views of the mountains, the ocean and the old town, which can be booked for private events. In addition to this use, a limited selection of comfort food will be available. For larger meetings and events, the hotel will also have flexible studios, a conference room and a ballroom.

Guests will also be able to enjoy a wellness area with a fitness room and spa, consisting of three treatment rooms, a steam room, a sauna and a swimming pool with hydrotherapy equipment. A bar-spa will also be included in the space. Finally, a nightclub will complete the overall offer later this year: Sunset.

A spa and wellness facility with a bar is something we haven’t really seen before. But going down there and socializing and drinking and then getting into the thermal waters is, again, a response to being in Iceland. And combining this in a tasteful and elegant way underpins what the EDITION brand is about.
