The Unbound Collection by Hyatt expands with the upcoming arrival of Magma Resort Santorini

Magma Resort Santorini will join The Unbound Collection by Hyatt portfolio as the first Hyatt-affiliated resort in the Greek islands.

Hyatt Hotels Corporation has just announced that its subsidiary The Unbound Collection by Hyatt has entered into a franchise agreement with Thera Island Suites S.A., owner of Magma Resort Santorini. SWOT Hospitality, an Athens-based hotel management company, will be responsible for the operation of the hotel.

We are thrilled to work with SWOT Hospitality and are excited to announce The Unbound Collection by Hyatt brand’s upcoming entry into the Greek Islands with Magma Resort Santorini. The expansion of our luxury and independent collection brands in popular leisure destinations in Europe plays a central role in our growth strategy as we aim to satisfy the increasing leisure demand from travelers looking for story-worthy experiences.

Peter Norman, senior vice president of development for EAME & SWA, Hyatt

The hotel is scheduled to open in 2022, just in time for the summer season. Magma Resort Santorini will have 59 rooms including 24 suites. Amongst these rooms, 46 will have private pools and jacuzzis with unique views of the Aegean Sea and the island of Anafi. The property's restaurant is run by a chef with two Michelin stars, attesting to the quality of the food served. Local and seasonal products will be featured, as well as renowned wines from the vineyards for which the island is known.

The offer will be completed by a wellness centre and underground spa as well as a large function room for up to 250 people. Magma Resort Santorini will also include several semi-outdoor areas and covered walkways to provide coolness to its guests.

The hotel will resemble a traditional Cycladic dwelling with a modern twist and will be designed to integrate the natural environment. Nestled amongst ancient traditional vineyards, the resort will be located on the slopes of Vourvoulos, close to the lava sand beaches of the northeast of the island and popular cosmopolitan destinations such as Fira and Oia. The design and architectural development will be carried out by PEOPLE and ELASTIC Architects.

We are very pleased to be part of the Hyatt family by introducing The Unbound Collection by Hyatt brand to Greece, and the story-worthy experiences that will come with its brand recognition. Together with Hyatt, we aim to set a new benchmark for hospitality in the destination.

Stefanos Papakaliatis, managing partner at Thera Islands Suites

Santorini is one of the most visited islands in Greece and due to its growing popularity, it has been chosen by the Ministry of Tourism and the European Bank as an area of interest for sustainable tourism. The island is particularly known for its beaches, cliffs overlooking the caldera and its iconic sunsets.

Once open, Magma Resort Santorini will become the ninth hotel in The Unbound Collection by Hyatt in Europe. A further three properties are in the pipeline, the Grand Hansa Hotel Helsinki, La Zambra in Mijas, Spain and the Hotel Rhodania Crans Montana in Switzerland.
