The IHG Group has signed its first luxury hotel in Mallorca, under the Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants brand. The hotel should open by 2022.
With a capacity of 79 rooms, the Kimpton Mallorca will be located next to one of the most famous golf courses on the island, Santa Ponsa Golf, on the site of the current Santa Ponsa Country Club. The site will undergo major renovation and expansion, with the backdrop of the hills and wooded fairways that crisscross the southwest of the island. The hotel will be located less than 30 minutes from Palma de Mallorca airport.
The hotel will offer two outdoor swimming pools, one with direct access to the beach, an indoor pool, tennis courts, a yoga studio and a spa with 16 treatment rooms. The MICE offer will also be guaranteed thanks to more than 300 m² of multifunctional meeting space.
Karin Sheppard, Managing Director Europe at IHG, said :
“I’m particularly delighted to see the expansion of our luxury portfolio in Southern Europe, home to so many popular leisure destinations. We already have a strong presence in both the mainstream and upscale segments and are now delighted to be expanding our presence in the luxury space, too. This signing once again shows the strength of our brands and the confidence that owners and investors have in IHG.”
She stressed out her ambitions for Europe in 2019 during her speech at the Global Lodging Forum.
Following the recent announcements of Six Senses Rome, Six Senses Antognolla and InterContinental Rome, Kimpton Mallorca is the latest addition to IHG's growing luxury portfolio in Europe. IHG has 44 luxury hotels in Europe, with an additional 17 luxury hotels expected to open in the next 3-5 years.
Founded in 1981 in San Francisco by Bill Kimpton, the Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants luxury brand was acquired by IHG in 2015 and currently operates 75 hotels that have opened and another 32 are scheduled to open in the next 5 years. Since acquiring the brand, IHG has been the driving force behind Kimpton's global growth beyond the United States. In Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa (EMEAA), IHG opened four hotels in 2020. The brand is also expected to make its debut in Bali and Paris in 2021, with additional hotels planned in Germany, Mexico, Malaysia, China, Hong Kong and the Netherlands.
