First Zleep Hotel to open in Madrid

Zleep Hotel, a lifestyle brand in the Deutsche Hospitality portfolio, is entering the southern European region for the first time.

Deutsche Hospitality has chosen Madrid to open the first Zleep hotel in southern Europe, a Danish chain in which it acquired a 51% stake in 2019. The brand is only present in northern Europe at the moment, with 14 properties, and plans to open 25 more by 2025.

The Zleep Hotel Madrid Airport, located near Barajas Airport, will open on 3 August 2022. It will feature 281 rooms, 8 of which will have kitchens and lounges and will therefore be mainly aimed at families. The property's offer is based on a concept that combines lifestyle and well-being.

The hotel aims to "adapt to the different types of guests who stay there", so guests will be able to interact with the reception staff but also use technology to check in, thanks to an automatic check-in screen.

The new property will therefore bring to Madrid, as its director Dominique Simon explained, "the Nordic concept of wellbeing that Europeans love so much, which will be reflected in good beds, perfect soundproofing to avoid noise and air conditioning that ensures the right temperature".

The Zleep Hotel Madrid Airport will not initially have a restaurant. But hotel guests will be able to go to the neighbouring restaurant, which is already being fitted out for the hotel's opening. Breakfast service will be provided at the property.

Deutsche Hospitality already has another property in Spain, the Steigenberger Hotel & Resort Camp de Mar in Mallorca, a 5-star luxury hotel. The opening of this new hotel is part of the group's expansion plan to become Europe's third largest hotel operator by number of hotels within five years.

To boost its development, Deutsche Hospitality has developed two new brands in the last year: a luxury brand with Porsche Design, with a first property to open in the Middle East, and House of Beats, a lifestyle brand designed for a young clientele, which will open its first hotel in Hamburg.

The Spanish market is booming and is attracting the interest of a growing number of hospitality actors who want to expand their presence in the country. EXTENDAM has announced that it is investing in various properties on the Iberian Peninsula, Hotel Investment Partners (HIP) and Barceló Hotel Group are preparing to open a resort in Lanzarote and Radisson Collection is opening a second address in Spain.
