The tourism company Athinaion Tourist Enterprises SA and the hotel chain Yes! Hotels Group have merged to create a new hospitality brand in Greece, named Donkey Hotel.
The Athinaion Tourist Enterprises SA, owned by the Ioannou family, absorbed the Yes hotel chain to create the new Donkey Hotels brand.
Focusing on hotel development, Donkey Hotels look to acquire existing hotels in urban centers and also to develop new units in popular destinations in Greece. The aim is to strengthen Donkey Hotel’s expansion by attracting domestic and international investment funds in the near future.
“With this move we aim to highlight our successful presence in the hotel industry and create economies of scale and synergies that will give great momentum to Donkey Hotels,” the chain’s president, Christos Ioannou, said in an announcement.
Today, the total floor space of the units in Donkey Hotels’ portfolio have a size of some 85,000 square meters. Particular attention will be paid to corporate social responsibility. At this time, this portfolio includes 5 hotels all located in Athens : the luxury 5-star Athenaeum Intercontinental (563 rooms), The Semiramis hotel, a member of Marriott’s Design Hotels, the NEW Hotel (79 rooms), a member of Marriott’s Design Hotels and of Virtuoso luxury travel network, and the Periscope hotel (22 rooms), also a member of Marriott’s Design Hotels.
To the spring of 2022, Donkey Hotels will open a new entry in a new destination : Greek island of Santorini. The new hotel will have 121 rooms, half of which with private pools. Donkey Hotels will also be run by Thomas Giolmas as executive vice president, Panos Panagiotopoulos as the director of the Athenaeum InterContinental and Stefania Flenga as the general manager of Yes! Hotels.
