Hilton Worldwide pursues its development in Germany and will extend it to Austria and Switzerland, with a focus on developing the Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton by Hilton and Motto by Hilton brands. Development starts off with the confirmed opening of Hilton Garden Inn Herne and Hampton by Hilton Bottrop in Germany’s industrial centre.
The Hilton/Signo agreement
Hilton’s development plan starts with the opening of two hotels in the Ruhr Valley, one in Herne and the other in Bottrop. The neighbouring cities being renowned for their chemicals, machinery and transport industries, both hotels will be positioned to attract business and leisure demand in the area. The two properties will be operated by Signo under a franchise agreement and a long-term lease with third-party developer and landlord FAKT AG, which namely owns and operates Shamrock Park in Herne.
We are excited to partner with Signo Hospitality to support the next phase of our development in Germany, where Hilton is growing rapidly with nearly 50 hotels trading or under development. Rising demand for our focused service brands has underpinned this growth – particularly Hampton by Hilton, which has doubled its footprint in the past few years. There remains a tremendous opportunity for Hampton, Hilton Garden Inn and Motto by Hilton in cities across Germany, from airports to regional business hubs. Working with partners like Signo will allow us to continue this momentum and unleash pent up demand for quality branded accommodation.

Hilton Garden Inn Herne
The hotel is planned to open in Herne’s growing Shamrock business park at the beginning of 2023. Hilton Garden Inn Herne will offer 154 rooms and will be the first Hilton hotel in the Ruhr city. In addition, guests will enjoy a lobby restaurant and bar, a shop, a 60-sqm gym and 3 meeting rooms for a total of 100 sqm.
Hampton by Hilton Bottrop
This 108-key hotel will open on Berlin Square in central Bottrop in early 2023 and will also be the first Hilton hotel in town. Worth noting that Hampton by Hilton Bottrop will take part in the redevelopment project of a shopping centre, including retail outlets and a large cinema complex.
Further development
Going forward, Hilton Worldwide will keep up its development in Germany with 7 new Hampton by Hilton hotels planned for 2021. These projects will complete the group’s presence in Germany, which now counts 33 trading Hilton Worldwide hotels and constitutes its second largest market in Continental Europe. It will also follow the opening of Hampton by Hilton Turkistan in Kazakhstan, the brand’s 100th property in EMEA.
Additionally, Hilton Worldwide has also announced the opening of Hilton Tirana at the end of 2023, a 174-room property in the heart of the Albanian capital. The Hilton Hotels & Resorts hotel will be operated under a management agreement with its owner Kastrati Residences Ltd, a subsidiary of Kastrati Group. To enhance guest experience, Hilton Tirana will offer a spa with indoor pool and fitness centre, a rooftop boasting a pool and lounge with views of the Skanderbeg Mountains, as well as an executive lounge and extensive meetings and events space.
