Dublin's accommodation landscape is set to welcome a new addition as Premier Inn, under the Whitbread PLC umbrella, secures its eighth location in Ireland, strategically located at Usher's Quay, Dublin 8.
This significant acquisition further consolidates Premier Inn's growing presence in Ireland, with a network of rooms in operation and under development now exceeding 1,500 rooms.
The Usher's Quay development site has full planning permission for a 100 bedroom hotel. Whitbread successfully acquired this site from Warren Private and Greenleaf, marking another significant milestone in the company's Irish expansion. Although the specific acquisition cost remains confidential, Whitbread intends to take over the development of this property, subject to any potential changes to existing planning permission.
Whitbread's journey in Ireland began with the opening of its first city centre hotel at South Great George's Street in November 2018. Since then, the company has gradually expanded its footprint, currently operating two Premier Inn hotels in Dublin city centre, as well as an additional site near Dublin Airport in Swords. Looking ahead, the company has ambitious plans, with a further two hotels due to open in Dublin and one in Cork within the next six months.
With a vision to become a major player across Ireland, Whitbread plans to create more than 3,000 Premier Inn rooms across the country.
The acquisition of Usher's Quay also symbolises Whitbread's enduring partnership with Warren Private and Greenleaf. They worked together to deliver the Premier Inn in South Great George's Street and are currently on site building Cork's first ever Premier Inn, due to open in the New Year.
Dublin can look forward to future Premier Inn openings, with Newmarket Square in Dublin 8 ready to welcome guests this autumn, offering 151 rooms. Then, a massive 262-room Premier Inn in North Docklands is scheduled for a December launch. Beyond Dublin, Cork looks forward to the arrival of its first Premier Inn in January 2024. With these developments, Premier Inn is making its mark on the Irish hospitality landscape.
“Usher’s Quay is exactly the type of location we are searching for in Dublin city centre as we seek to grow Premier Inn’s presence across the city. It is in an excellent position for our customers in an area which has very few hotel options currently, and the existing planning permission means we can deliver the new Premier Inn hotel at pace. Acquiring the site gives us two fantastic locations in Dublin 8 and it takes us another step towards our goal of 2,500 Premier Inn rooms across the city.” - Matt Gent, Development Manager for Whitbread in Ireland
“The Usher’s Quay hotel site is an exceptional development opportunity, and I was very pleased to work with Whitbread to secure the location for Premier Inn. It continues our partnership of delivering well-positioned hotels in Dublin and Cork for the brand and I am certain it will be a very popular destination on opening.” - Mark Elliot, Managing Director at Greenleaf
