IHG Hotels & Resorts plans to open its first Staybridge Suites property under franchise in Malaga, following the UK group's agreement with AQ Acentor and Borealis Hotel Group for the future operation of the AQ Urban Sky North Tower.
Staybridge Suites will be one of the two hospital brands present in the two towers, which will have a total accommodation capacity of over 300 rooms. Specifically, the future Staybridge Suites Malaga will have 105 rooms, which will be located between the second and sixth floors of the north tower.
AQ Urban Sky will have a total built area of more than 77,000 m², housing approximately 450 homes, more than 500 parking spaces and representing an investment of more than 175 million euros. Its construction, by Avintia, is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.
In terms of sustainability, both buildings will have the highest energy rating, built in accordance with the criteria required to obtain the BREEAM "Very Good" certificate, and will benefit from a CO2 emission offsetting service for two years from the delivery of the properties.
AQ Acentor, a property developer and subsidiary of the Aquila Capital investment group, specialising in the development of projects in metropolitan areas, has entered into an agreement with the Dutch hotel operator Borealis Hotel Group to operate the two future hotels to be built in the North Tower under a 15-year lease.
For its part, Borealis, which usually operates the brands of major global hotel operators such as Accor, Hilton or IHG, planned to establish "two franchise agreements with prestigious international brands".
Once the IHG hotel in Malaga is inaugurated, it will be the first Staybridge Suites branded asset of IHG Hotels & Resorts in Spain, having already achieved a significant presence in North America, Brazil, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa.
We are delighted to introduce our Staybridge Suites brand to Spain. Located in the iconic AQ Urban Sky project in Malaga, in partnership with AQ Acentor and hotel operator Borealis Group, Staybridge Suites Malaga will offer 105 attractively designed suites with fully equipped kitchens, perfect for leisure and business stays of varying lengths.
