As part of its expansion into the European resort market, Hilton announces the forthcoming opening of 10 new resorts, totalling more than 1,500 rooms. These properties, located in attractive destinations such as Greece, Ibiza and Malta, represent a major step in Hilton's growth strategy to strengthen its presence in the European tourism market.
Hilton has announced the signing of four new franchise agreements: Hilton Alvor, due to open in 2026, Cala San Miguel Hotel Ibiza, Club Cala San Miguel Hotel Ibiza and Numo Ierapetra Beach Resort Crete, all three under the Curio Collection by Hilton brand. These agreements add to the list of new European properties due to open this summer in Italy, Greece, Croatia and Malta.
Over the years, popular tourist destinations such as Greece and Sardinia have seen an increase in popularity. In response to this growing demand, Hilton opened more than 20 resorts in Europe, the Middle East and Africa last year, under six of its brands. This expansion is part of Hilton's strategy to grow its portfolio of resorts. Over the past five years, the number of resorts has doubled to more than 300 hotels worldwide.
Highlights of the new openings include the 363-room Hilton Alvor in Portugal's Algarve region. The hotel will offer a range of dining options, wellness facilities and a 1,200 square metre event space.
In addition, two hotels in Ibiza under the Curio Collection by Hilton brand will open this summer. The Cala San Miguel Hotel Ibiza will offer 196 rooms with direct access to the beach, while the Club Cala San Miguel Hotel Ibiza, designed for an adult clientele, will offer 96 rooms and first-class facilities.
Finally, the Numo Ierapetra Beach Resort Crete, located in south-east Crete, will offer 132 rooms and suites, as well as a range of wellness and leisure facilities, including a luxury spa and open-air cinema.
New summer openings in the Mediterranean also include Isla Brown Chania Crete Resort, Isla Brown Corinthia Resort & Spa, Mangia's Santa Teresa Sardinia, DoubleTree by Hilton Malta and Keight Hotel Opatija, all part of the prestigious Curio Collection by Hilton.
"Customer demand for high-quality resorts in both international tourism hotspots and fast-growing leisure destinations is increasing, leading owners to take a growing interest in developing resorts under Hilton brands. Last year alone, more than one-fifth of our openings in Europe, the Middle East and Africa were resorts, and by working with a wide range of owners, we expect continued growth in this market segment, particularly in Mediterranean island destinations. With 10 resorts in Europe due to open in time for the summer season, we are offering exceptional properties in popular destinations such as Ibiza, the Algarve and Crete, expanding our range of resorts across the region under a variety of brands". - Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president of development for Europe, Middle East and Africa at Hilton
