Swissôtel Hotels has announced the opening of its new property, the Swissôtel Lagoon Budapest, scheduled for 2028. The project is being developed by Romanian property developer Forty Management, which specialises in mixed-use projects and urban redevelopment.
The Accor portfolio in Hungary already includes 27 hotels and three other properties under development. This new property follows the recent introduction of the Pullman brand in the country.
The Swissôtel Lagoon Budapest will be designed to be energy self-sufficient, through the use of solar panels and heat pumps. The project will include a 10,000 m² artificial lagoon and 3,500 m² of sandy beaches. The hotel will be located in the Pesterzsébet district of Budapest, on the eastern bank of a secondary branch of the Danube. It will offer 200 rooms and flats overlooking an artificial lagoon on the banks of the Danube.
The hotel's facilities will include two restaurants, a lobby bar, a spa, wellness and fitness areas, a conference room and a 200-space car park. The lagoon will provide private access to the beach and sustainably heated water, which will be transformed into an ice-skating rink in winter.
The project will use Crystal Lagoon® technology, developed by an American company specialising in biochemical and aquatic services. This innovation makes it possible to build and maintain sustainable lagoons on a large scale. Forty Management is authorised to use this technology as part of its Lagoon City concept.
The development of Swissôtel Lagoon Budapest is being coordinated with the support of Mircea Ioan Drăghici of Est Hospitality Consulting, who has more than 23 years' experience in the hotel and consulting industry.
“The Swissôtel property will overlook the centrepiece of the development: the Crystal Lagoon patent man-made turquoise lagoon and its sandy beaches. The Swissôtel brand is the perfect fit for this exciting development, and will be strongly positioned to be the premium hospitality brand of choice in the Central District Lagoon City.” - Lucian Azoitei, Founder&CEO la Forty Management
