The Mexican hoteliers Carlos Couturier and the Micha brothers pursue the expansion of their group of Habita boutique hotels. With the opening of the Purificadora, the group grew to six properties, all of which are affiliated with the voluntary hotel chain Design Hotels. After Mexico and the beach resorts in the Yucatan, the group settled a hundred or so kilometers from the capital, in the historic center of the city of Puebla, which has joined Unesco’s World Heritage List. The directors of the Habita group entrusted Ricardo Legorreta with the conversion of a former 19th-century water purification plant. The result: a minimalist, black and white hotel signed by this renowned architect who had not been seen in the hotel world since 1964 with the Camino Real in Mexico City. An oasis of purity where raw materials go center stage: wood, onyx and stone are recuperated from the original building. Fragments of glass, found during the conversion work, are also part of the décor. The terrace and swimming pool, located on the roof, are conducive to relaxation. The Purificadora offers gourmets, a restaurant with an impressive wine cellar that revisits Poblana cuisine. It is one of the rare hotels in the world that offers its guests the famous beauty products by Kiehls.
