Matt Goldberg, former CEO of Lonely Planet, has been appointed new Chief Executive Officer of Tripadvisor.
Through this nomination, Matt Goldberg succeeds Tripadvisor’s co-founder and long-time CEO, Stephen Kaufer. He had co-founded Tripadvisor in 2000 and announced last year is intention to leave his role as CEO.
Graduated from the University of Melbourne in International Relations and from Stanford University Graduate School of Business, Matt Goldberg started his career as Director of Strategic Planning / Assistant to the Governor in the State of Illinois.
In 1999, he became Consultant, Media & Entertainment Group for Yahoo and was then nominated Senior Director, US Business Development at Bertelsmann.
He joined Dow Jones / The Wall Street Journal in 2003 and held several positions, such as executive Director of Dow Jones Integrated Solutions, Vice President of Franchise Development & Partnerships, and finally Senior Vice President of The Wall Street Journal Digital Network.
From 2009 to 2013, he became the CEO of the travel guide Lonely Planet. At the same time, he was part of the Founding Board Member of The Conversartion Media Group, « an independent source of news and views, sourced from the academic and research community and delivered direct to the public ».
After that, he served in various leadership roles in the digital content, media and entertainment, and travel industries, and in both B2B and direct-to-consumer models at companies such as Liberty Interactive Corp / QVC Group, News Corp, Elara Technologies, Burning Man Project and TeamSnap.
Matt Goldberg is also involved in the caritative field through several foundations such as Lumina Foundation, Anthropocene Ventures and Lingod GmbH.
Most recently, he served as Executive Vice President, North America and Global Operations at The Trade Desk. In 2021 he founded Dataphilanthopy, a non-profit focused on building programs to apply data to better address and understand economic disparity.
