Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has appointed Olga Kefalogianni as the country’s Minister of Tourism. It is a return for her to the post she occupied under Antonis Samaras between 2012-2015.
The Athens native will take over the ministry following the New Democracy party’s victory in the Greek elections on 25th June 2023.
Kefalogianni was first elected to the Hellenic Parliament in 2007. She has since been re-elected as an MP in the 2009, 2012, 2015, 2019, and 2023 elections.
During her time in parliament, she has also served as a member of the Standing Committee on National Defense and Foreign Affairs, the Standing Committee on Production and Trade, and the Special Permanent Committee on Institutions and Transparency.
Prior to politics, Kefalogianni practised law and has been a member of the Athens Bar Association since 1999. From the late 1990s to 2009, she worked for major law firms in Athens and New York. Between 2004-2006, she also served as a legal advisor to the Prime Minister of Greece.
Olga Kefalogianni holds a Bachelor of Laws from the National Kapodistrian University of Athens, a Master of Laws in Commercial and Corporate Law from King’s College London, and a Master’s degree in International Relations and Affairs from The Fletcher School at Tufts University.
Her Deputy Minister is Élena Rápti from the New Democracy party.
