"We are proud of a management team that has helped us overcome two serious crises, such as the 2008 financial crisis and the recent Covid pandemic, and in these times of constant change and continuous evolution in the digital sphere, we saw the opportunity to update its composition and complete it by incorporating an external executive with a financial and technological profile and a wealth of experience, while maintaining our commitment to our internal talent, which has always been a competitive advantage for our group." - Gabriel Escarrer, Executive Vice President and CEO of Meliá
Sonia Jerez
As CFO, Sonia Jerez will replace Pilar Dols, who is completing a long career with the company, and will head up the Escarrer family office.
A graduate in physics and electronic engineering, Sonia Jerez has over 20 years' experience as CFO in companies in various sectors, particularly aeronautics.
"It is a great satisfaction that Pilar has accepted the challenge of leading the Escarrer Family Office (which includes the Group's main shareholders), and I am sure that her financial knowledge, rigor and the total trust she has earned over so many years in the business are a guarantee of success in her new responsibility." - Gabriel Escarrer, Executive Vice President and CEO of Meliá
"Sonia Jerez is a great professional, with the right training, strength and enthusiasm to meet the multiple challenges that today's environment imposes on tourism companies, a sector she knows well; her incorporation represents the arrival of an "external" talent that enriches the reorganization of our management team, fundamentally based on the promotion of internal professionals." - Gabriel Escarrer, Executive Vice President and CEO of Meliá
Juan Ignacio Pardo
Juan Ignacio Pardo, Meliá's former General Counsel and Compliance Director, has been promoted to Director of Real Estate. He will succeed Mark Hoddinott, who has decided to leave the company after 25 years in various management positions.
Real estate is not unfamiliar territory for Juan Ignacio Pardo, who began his career in the legal department of a construction company like Dragados, a sector to which he has always been linked.
"Juan Ignacio Pardo is a solid and versatile executive who, in addition to his legal training and experience, has extensive experience in team and project management. He also enjoys a great reputation in the sector, having chaired the Spanish Chamber of Commerce's tourism commission on behalf of Meliá Hotels International." - Gabriel Escarrer, Executive Vice President and CEO of Meliá
"Mark has been a key pillar in the development of Meliá Hotels International in recent years, and we will certainly miss his professionalism and human qualities, but we have decided to respect his desire to change careers, in order to develop a private business project, in which we wish him well ." Gabriel Escarrer, Executive Vice President and CEO of Meliá
Mariano Pérez de Cáceres
Mariano Pérez de Cáceres, until now Vice-President of the Group's Legal Department, will take up the position of General Counsel and Compliance Officer.
"Perez is the natural successor to Juan Ignacio Pardo, after extraordinarily complex years during which he represented the company in major projects at the head of the legal sector, contributing his knowledge and outstanding leadership." - Gabriel Escarrer, Executive Vice President and CEO of Meliá
The newly created position of Chief Strategy Officer will be filled by former VP Strategy Carlos González, who has evolved professionally within the Group and held various positions over 26 years. He also heads the company's cross-functional digitalization project, "Be Digital 360", and the innovation sector.
"With this appointment, Carlos González complements the Executive Committee, of which he has been a member in recent years as Vice President Strategy, bringing a strategic vision and spirit that have greatly contributed to the successful management of the pandemic and the strong recovery momentum." - Gabriel Escarrer, Executive Vice President and CEO of Meliá
