Sonesta International Hotels Corporation announced on March 14, 2022 the nomination of John Muray as President and Chief Executive Officer effective April 1st.
Since 2018, John Muray has been a Managing Trustee, President and Chief Executive Officer of Service Properties Trust (SVC) and a member of SVC's management team since 1995. He currently serves on the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Development Council and the American Hotel Lodging Association (ALHA) Hotel Investment Roundtable.
John Muray owns 34% interests in Sonesta and succeeds Carlos Flores within the company. After seven years at this position, he decided to resign in order to relocate his family back to California. His resignation will be effective on March 31, 2022 but he will continue with Sonesta as an advisor to John Murray and the company.
Because of his nomination, John Muray will resign from his roles as President and Chief Executive Officer of Service Properties Trust and President and Chief Executive Officer of Industrial Logistics Properties Trust (ILPT). But he will continue to serve as a Managing Trustee on the boards of SVC and ILPT. He will also continue to serve as Executive Vice President of The RMR Group (RMR) and a member of RMR's Executive Operating Committee.
I am very excited to assume the role of President and Chief Executive Officer at Sonesta, which is well poised for further growth and expansion. As Sonesta has greatly expanded its number of hotels over the last few years under Carlos's leadership, it has also enhanced the depth, quality, and experience of the Sonesta team. We are grateful to Carlos for his tremendous contribution to Sonesta. I look forward to working closely with the talented leadership team, whom I know well, and our more than 6,000 dedicated employees to continue Sonesta's growth, enhance Sonesta's brand awareness and deliver an exceptional guest experience.
John Muray, President and CEO of Sonesta International Hotels Corporation
A nomination which comes after a large strategy of rebranding among the group’s USA portfolio with the acquisition of Red Lion’s hotels and the launch of its new brand, Sonesta Select. Thanks to that, the group has considerably increased its portfolio and thus raised in the world supply rankings.
