Phil McAveety, former executive vice president and chief brand officer of Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, joins Iberostar Hotels & Resorts as CEO of the hotel company.
This is a job creation that is in line with the expansion strategy of the group that recently entered into a business alliance with IHG.
In his previous role, Phil McAveety was responsible for global brand and digital strategy for Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, which had a portfolio of brands including Sheraton, Westin, St Regis and W Hotels.
Prior to that, he served as Global Brand Director for Camper International in Spain. He then spent 9 years at Nike Inc. in several positions, including Vice President of Marketing for Nike Europe, Middle East and Asia. Prior to joining Nike in 1997, he spent nine years at the advertising agency Leo Burnett International where he held several roles. He has lived and worked in the UK, Portugal, Hong Kong, the US, the Netherlands and Spain.
He has a degree in economic history from the University of Exeter (UK) and an Executive MBA from Harvard Business School.
He brings a wealth of experience in brand development, brand communication, marketing and advertising. He will report directly to Sabina Fluxá, the group's CEO, who stated that "this incorporation allows us to strengthen our management team with an executive who has more than 30 years of experience in the European, Asia-Pacific and U.S. markets and who has recognized international experience in the consumer, hotel, retail, sports and lifestyle sectors."
