Along with NYC & Company CEO George Frittata, New York's Mayor Bloomberg announced record growth to the US city, with an increase of 20 million annual tourists since 2002 to receive 54.3 million tourists this year. According to Mayor Bloomberg, the city should reach 55 million tourists by 2014.From now until the end of the year, this influx of additional tourists will have injected 58.7 million dollars into the city's economy. In addition, the tourism and hotel sectors should gain a total of 350,000 jobs per month this year. According to Mayor Bloomberg, the sector's economic influence "has been essential to enable New York to overcome the national economic crisis".However, one hurdle remains, and that is attracting an increasing number of international visitors. Although that number is growing, it still only makes up 11.4 million visitors of the 54.3 million. Nevertheless, New York is the leading big city destination in the United States, with an average occupancy rate of 87.8%, while ADR increased by 4% to 296 dollars.
