
The year got off to a cracking start for London's hotel industry with the opening of the address InterContinental London - The O2, a 453-room property on the Greenwich Peninsula.
The British Group's latest property is directly adjacent to the iconic O2 Arena, a multi-purpose venue and one of the busiest entertainment arenas in the world, with over 1,8 million tickets sold in 2014. The hotel is close to the tourist sites of Greenwich, including the famed Royal Observatory and the capital's Maritime Museum.
Offering 453 rooms (including 59 suites), the InterContinental London - The O2 also boasts five bars and restaurants, as well as a spa. It offers a 3,100sqm ballroom, a conference center, and close to twenty meeting rooms. The address is adequatly connected to London transport infrastructure, 400m from North Greenwich underground station and North Greenwich Pier.
The hotel is the second London property in the InterContinental Hotels & Resorts portfolio of 30 European destinations, after recent openings in Portugal (Estoril) and France (Bordeaux). This portfolio should grow further in 2016, with five additional European properties set to open. As of January 1, 2015, InterContinental Hotels Group was the leading hotel group worldwide in terms of number of rooms with 710,295 units in 4,840 properties, according to data published by MKG Consulting.
