While its neighbors' tourism industries struggle to recover from the Arab Spring, Morocco stands out for the promising impact of this sector on its economy. Figures from the World Tourism Travel Council (WTTC) reveal this along with the country's new position as leader in North African tourism. On the whole of the year 2013, tourism accounted for 18.7% of Morocco's GDP, representing some 19.7 billion dollars. The sector made it possible to provide 1.8 million jobs, meaning close to 16.7% pf all jobs in the country. On the period, tourists generated some 8.78 billion dollars in revenues, and this figure should grow by 10.1% in 2014. Finally, the amount of investments realized in tourism in the country surpassed 3.5 billion dollars, representing more than 11% of all national investments. The WTTC expects to see this amount increase in 2014. Internationally, Morocco ranks 38th in terms of tourist destinations, ahead of Tunisia (49th) and Algeria (111th).
