Valérie Pécresse proposes an additional holiday tax for visitors to the Ile-de-France to finance the the additional costs of the Grand Paris Express.
The president of Les Republicans of the Ile-de-France region, Valérie Pécresse, hopes that the calendar for works on the Grand Paris Express will be respected and thus suggests an additional holiday tax for the 40 million tourists to the Ile-de-France.
"We need around 150 million more euros per year to finance the additional costs and we have 40 million tourists. Therefore a small tax of 2 to 3 euros on tourists can balance the economic model of Grand Paris," declares Valérie Pécresse.
She adds that she asked the government for a compensation fund for travelers who are penalized by the work sites around the city as well as discounted parking at the gates to Paris in order to lighten traffic in the capital. In this light, she also suggests financing around 1,000 co-working spaces by 2021 and encouraging private businesses in the Ile-de-France to sign agreements for working from home.
