Mandarin Oriental has expanded its presence in Paris by taking over management of the iconic Hôtel Lutetia, which will now be rebranded as Mandarin Oriental Lutetia, Paris. This milestone reinforces the Group’s commitment to offering luxury hospitality in the French capital.

Strategic expansion into Paris' left bank

The opening of Mandarin Oriental Lutetia marks a significant addition to the Group’s portfolio. As the only Palace hotel located on Paris' Left Bank, this newly acquired property complements Mandarin Oriental's existing presence on Rue Saint-Honoré.

“Today marks a new chapter for Mandarin Oriental as we officially welcome this legendary Parisian landmark Palace into our portfolio. In addition to our beloved Saint Honore gem, with Mandarin Oriental Lutetia, Paris, we celebrate not only the rich heritage of the Left Bank but also our vision for the future of luxury hospitality.” - Laurent Kleitman, Group Chief Executive of Mandarin Oriental

A fusion of tradition and contemporary luxury

Mandarin Oriental Lutetia is a seamless blend of history and modernity. The hotel retains its heritage, enhanced by Mandarin Oriental's signature approach to service and hospitality. The property features notable spaces such as the Parisian Brasserie Lutetia, the Akasha Wellness space, and Bar Josephine.

“The Akirov family is the proud owner of Lutetia, Paris is Lutetia and Lutetia is Paris! We are deeply committed to the success of the hotel — one of Paris’ leading Palaces and among Europe’s most distinguished hotels. We are pleased that Mandarin Oriental will be managing the property. We share a common vision for Lutetia: to honour its heritage and spirit, while elevating the hotel to new heights of excellence.” - Georgi Akirov, owner of the hotel

Hôtel Lutetia: a rich history

Founded in 1910 by the Boucicaut family, Hôtel Lutetia quickly became a symbol of Parisian culture, hosting numerous intellectual and artistic figures over the years. The hotel’s blend of Art Nouveau and Art Deco design reflects the city’s creativity and history.

It has been home to luminaries like Picasso, Matisse, and Charles de Gaulle, and became a hub for writers and artists, including James Joyce, who completed Ulysses while staying at Lutetia. Hôtel Lutetia also holds historical significance as it served as a refuge for displaced individuals after World War II and became a key location for modern cultural icons.

After a comprehensive renovation, led by renowned architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte, the hotel reopened in 2018, preserving its heritage while introducing modern amenities.
