Viajes Euroski & Iberostar

On Tuesday 22 November, the Iberostar Group signed a contract to acquire 100% of the retail travel agency Viajes Eroski through its tourism division manager, World2Meet - W2M.

Viajes Eroski is part of the Mondragón Group, which owns the Eroski food retail chain, among others. It has 130 retail and business travel offices, many of which are linked to the shopping centres in which the "Eroski" network of supermarkets and hypermarkets operates.

This acquisition strengthens the tourism division of Grupo Iberostar, owner of the Iberostar Hotels & Resorts chain. This division already includes the companies Iberoservice and World2Meet - W2M, mainly dedicated to inbound and wholesale travel activities.

As part of the agreement, Eroski will cede to W2M the use of the Viajes Eroski brand for a certain period of time to facilitate the transition and integration into the tourism group. Likewise, the Viajes Eroski and Travelair online platforms for business travel will remain operational and fully functional. "

With the incorporation of Viajes Eroski into our group, we are giving a very important boost to our strategic plan, in which contact with the customer plays a fundamental role. We are incorporating an important network into our project, supported by the quality of its human team, made up of more than 300 professionals, which represents a great responsibility for us and strengthens, if possible, our commitment to this project.

Gabriel M. Subías, CEO of W2M

This move by W2M comes five months after the acquisition of the Bytour management group and the signing of a membership agreement with its 250 associated agencies. In May of this year, the travel division of the Iberostar Group had already acquired the Azul Marino Travel Group.

Historically, Iberostar was closely linked to the retail travel sector through its own brand 'Viajes Iberia', which once had some 600 agencies in Spain and which it sold in 2006 to the Carlyle Group along with tour operators Iberojet, Viva Tours, Turavia and Solplan, as well as other companies in the division.
