Announced last November, it is now possible to enter a hotel room using a smartphone or even an Apple Watch a hundred or so W, Aloft and Element hotels. This technology should be rapidly unfurled at these three brands.

The new innovation at Starwood Hotels & Resorts is called SPG Keyless, which allows clients who belong to the SPG loyalty program to use their smartphone to unlock the door to your room. a special application was also developed with Apple to integrate the system in Apple Watch.

The key is the result of an online process that makes remote check-in possible BY attributing a room number that activates the system to open the door to the room. The Keyless device works using a new generation of locks developed by Assa ABloy and that responds to information sent by bluetooth or Wi-Fi from the smartphone operating under Android or IOS, or from a connected watch.

More than 130,000 SPG members in 130 countries have subscribed to SPG's Keyless service. Currently available at more than 100 Aloft, Element and W hotels, SPG Keyless will soon be in use for 30,000 doors in 150 Aloft, Element and W hotels worldwide.

"By  2020, 80 % of the adult population will have a smartphone, and, thanks to the SPG application, the option to use a digital key at our W, Aloft and Element properties," explains Nadège Dumont, marketing manager loyalty and partnerships for Starwood Hotels & Resorts Europe, Africa and the Middle East. "The rapid proliferation of portable technologies will make innovations such as the SPG Keyless service all the more indispensable."

The locks work with even the most classic magnetic card systems in case the smartphone does not work or additional keys are needed. Room exits and entries are recorded regardless of the system used to to guarantee access safety.
