The owners of 400 Travelodge properties have joined together to review the operation of their properties. They have announced a preference for the ibis brand from the Accor group.
The megabrand ibis is already the leader on the European market with nearly 150,000 rooms on January 1, 2020 for 1,547 properties, while Travelodge's European network of 589 properties has nearly 45,000 rooms.
The properties would be operated under the ibis budget brand, with the owners joining forces via the AGO Hotels platform, for which Accor's economic brand would be the exclusive partner. It offers 25-year leases and management support including repairs, a CAPEX program and property insurance.
This operation would enable the leading European operator to significantly increase its presence in the United Kingdom, where the Travelodge portfolio is mainly located.
This agreement follows the failures of the British brand noted by the owners involved in the shares who want a more reliable partner and a more remunerative operation. Travelodge had indeed requested a 50% reduction in the rent paid until the end of 2021.
