In 1907 the Hotel Keepers Association grouped together British hotels for the first time to provide a lobby representing their interests. A hundred years, four mergers and four name-changes later, the British Hospitality Association (BHA) continues to represent their interests and more specifically, it has an agenda full of issues to address, such as the excessively elevated UK VAT rate for hotel accommodation, while nonetheless enjoying a healthy market that is about to get better in light of the 2012 Olympic Games.

When selecting a host city the Olympics Committee has stringent requirements. The host city must have at least 50,000 rooms available for the influx of visitors.
