The city of royalty, international institutions and organizations, The Hague is also known as the host of the International Criminal Court, the International Court of Justice and Europol. The headquarters of major Dutch companies such as Royal Dutch Shell, Royal KPN (telecom) or Royal TNT Post, are also settled in the city. In May 2016, The Hague hosted the CSIT Swimming Championships.
Hotel chain supply stagnated in 2016, after it rose by 9.3% in 2015 through the addition of 271 rooms.
After levelling off in 2015 (-3.7% in the RevPAR) under the effect of this reopening, hotel performances in The Hague bounced back in 2016 with a 9.1% RevPAR rise. It was fueled by the rise in occupancy (+4 points, reaching 70.1%), while ADR growth remained below Dutch standards (+2.9% to 95.7€ VAT incl.).
