Kimpton Hotels move South to Savannah

The Californian hotel group announced the acquisition of the Mulberry Inn in Savannah, Georgia from Prince Bush Smith Hotels. Renovation will start for eight months to upgrade the first Kimpton property in the State of Georgia.

After going East, the Kimpton Hotel & Restaurant Group is going South through the acquisition for an undisclosed sum of the the 145-room Mulberry Inn, its first hotel in Georgia.The inn was built in 1982 on a site that housed a livery stable and a cotton warehouse in the 1800s, then later a Coca-Cola bottling plant. The site was developed into a hotel in 1982, but after bankruptcy, it was bought at auction by Smith and two others in 1992 and later renovated and franchised as a Holiday Inn.Kimpton plans eight months of renovation on the 1980-era property before rebranding it as a Kimpton.
